Overview

Link is an app who's mission is to provide members with a best-in-class financial wellness while helping credit unions deepen their relationships with customers.

Upon initial pitch to potential investors, feedback was two fold; the app was not esthetically comparable to other competitors in the market and it did not utilize an optimal user experience. In short, the app needed a refresh in order to garner interest about the project to investors.

I worked along CEO David Demsko to develop an initial pitch deck and new app designs while adding animation that would get investors excited about the application

Research

While understanding Link would be providing more information to the user than the average application (and information that would be difficult to digest at times), I looked to other financial and financial assistant applications. This included Wells Fargo, Rocket Money, and NerdWallet to name a few.

My takeaway from my research was the following:

• Making otherwise boring information more understandable to the average user was priority

• Getting the user excited about hitting milestones would encourage higher DAU

Challenges

• Consolidate information into digestible segments

• Align overall vision of how information should be presented to the user

• Create pieces in a modular way so they can be utilized across the entire app

Goals

• Create a cohesive experience through provided branding

• Update the overall look and feel

• Improve usability so users have a clear picture of their finances.

My Solution

The first thing to be done was to define the branding (color, font usage, ext.) in order to make a cohesive visual experience throughout the entire Link prototype as the first iteration had no branding consistency.

This led to defining the look in a granular, but necessary way that would be crucial for the construction of the prototype; buttons, text links, infographic designs in the Link branding would all be needed to create an app that was fine tuned and ready for user consumption.

From there, I began the process of information consolidation. Defining key points of information so they could be displayed upon log in, reducing the need for users to click away from the launch screen, and making information digestible.

After all this preliminary work was completed, I began the construction of the prototype, coordinating with David Demsko as I progressed to make sure key areas of interest were considered and goals for how the app would look and feel were met.

The result was a prototype that more closely aligned with what the client envisioned to present to investors and even provided new prospective on how information could be presented to users.

Home Screen

For the purposes of investor meetings, I choose to focus my attention n the Home Screen as this would not only be the point of entire after log in for users, but would set the tone and structure for the rest of the app.

A swipe function would be added to the home page so a user could find the most important information in the form of tiles without having to dig further into the app, however if additional information was needed, they could easily access whatever was needed through easy navigation and clearly defined links and button through distinct stylings.

The Result?

Securing of 'Series A' investment

The redesign was not only exactly what investors were looking to see, but gave them confidence in the product they were investing in. Series A investment was secured and the product is set to launch in the coming year.
